About This Service
Plenty of homes in Carlsbad, Encinitas and Cardiff were built with heat and nothing else. You have a gas furnace, you have ductwork running through the attic or the crawlspace, and every August you move fans around. Add-on air conditioning fixes that without tearing out the furnace you already own. We add an outdoor condenser, an evaporator coil that sits on top of the existing furnace, a refrigerant line set, a dedicated electrical circuit and a condensate drain. The furnace blower becomes the fan that pushes cold air through the ducts you already have. It's usually the least invasive way to get real cooling into an older house. The part a lot of companies skip is checking whether that ductwork can actually carry cooling. Heating and cooling move air differently. A duct system sized for warm air can choke a new coil, and a return that's too small shows up as high static pressure, weak airflow and a coil that ices over. So we measure first. If the ducts and returns are fine, we say so. If a return needs to be enlarged or a trunk resized, you hear it before the install instead of after. Add-on air conditioning is the work of adding central cooling to a home that already has a gas furnace and ductwork but no AC. An HVAC contractor installs an outdoor condenser, an evaporator coil on top of the existing furnace, a refrigerant line set, a dedicated electrical circuit and a condensate drain, then uses the existing furnace blower to move cooled air through the ducts already in the house. Proper work starts with a Manual J load calculation and a static pressure test rather than a square footage estimate, because an oversized system short cycles and pulls humidity out poorly. We install add-on AC in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Cardiff, Leucadia, Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Del Mar and Solana Beach. We're family owned, based in Carlsbad, licensed in California under HVAC license #1149074, with over 30 years of hands-on HVAC experience behind the business and no commission salespeople. Key Benefits
Our Process
Home Walkthrough
We walk the house and measure it. Rooms, window glass and orientation, insulation, ceiling height, plus a look at your furnace, panel and any existing AC rough in.
Manual J Load Calculation
We calculate the real cooling load room by room, then size the condenser and coil to that number. No square footage shortcuts and no guessing at tonnage.
Duct and Static Pressure Test
We test airflow and static pressure at the furnace to confirm the existing ducts, returns and blower can carry cooling, and we flag anything that needs resizing first.
Install and Startup
We set the condenser, mount the coil on the furnace, run the line set, electrical and condensate drain, then charge the system, verify airflow and walk you through it.
